We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced nurse, who is passionate and interested in working in an Acute inpatient mental services for patients. You must be able to work flexibly and willing to adapt with the changing needs of our services. The post will require a high level of teamwork as well as a degree of autonomous working.

 The inpatient is a dynamic, caring and compassionate environment. The team is highly motivated, focused and hardworking with a strong commitment to delivering high quality patient care. The therapeutic environment offers a broad range of interventions working co-productively with patients and cares to deliver an excellent service.  

 The ward team is a multi - disciplinary mental health team that aims to provide a safe and effective clinical assessment and treatment service for patient requiring acute mental health treatment in hospital informally or under a Section of the Mental Health Act. The inpatient unit is situated at the Mental Health Unit, Claybrook Road, Hammersmith.

Applicants should have professional nursing registration and experience of working within mental health services and within a multidisciplinary team and multi-agency frameworks.

You will receive a full induction and be given proactive and regular supervision, on-going access to training and support.

This includes being part of a supportive, caring and innovative team where there is a proactive approach to staff wellbeing.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

 The post holder will work closely with the Ward manager as a clinical team leader to provide safe, effective and high quality care for our adult patients with mental health needs. 

The post holder would ensure the delivery of high quality and effective nursing care to mental health service users receiving Inpatient and/or Community services within a service area, in accordance with the objectives and vision of the Trust.

The post holder will provide care, support and assessments of all clients who are referred to or enter their ward.

The post holder will give clinical supervision to qualified staffs and support the ward manager with the management responsibilities.

Complete assessments of the patients, provide feedback to the MDT on the progress of the patient, and make recommendations for further interventions

To accept section paperwork from police/AMHP and ensure all information is accurately correct.

To provide nursing care to clients including physical assessments and interventions, mental health assessments and interventions, risk assessments and appropriate management plans for any overt risks identified

To gather collateral information on clients from GP, community teams, liaise with other trusts (SPA/CATT/CMHT), family and friends if possible.

To complete all necessary documentation on the patient’s progress and plans for the patients care whilst on the ward including risk assessments, care plans and any assessment documentation

Experience

  • • Working with other professions within a multi-disciplinary team and contributing to the joint plans following on from a MH assessment
  • • Post qualification experience in acute mental health care setting • Experience of completing assessment and providing plans of care for patients that are in acute state of crisis
  • • Experience of working with patients that are acutely distressed and are at risk of becoming violent or aggressive
  • • Experience of leading a team and appropriately delegating tasks to ensure the highest level of care is delivered within a service
  • • Experience of supervising staff.
  • • Experience of supervising others in order to develop their clinical practice in Mental Health
  • • Experience of mentoring students
  • • Experience of promoting and enabling change within a team using a QI methodology

  • • Understanding the relationship between restrictive practice and violence and how best to reduce restriction in a safe and effective manner
  • •How to use a range of methods to support engagement
  • • Up to date knowledge of NICE Guidelines on the Management of Acutely Disturbed Behaviour
  • • Clear understanding of how to engage with patients who are distressed and in Crisis
  • • Understanding of then Mental Health Crisis Care for Londoners (London's section 136 pathway and Health Based Place of Safety specification) document
