Deputy Imaging Clinical Support Manager

Department: Imaging 

Band 4 £27,485 - £30,162 per annum

Full-time 37.5 hours per week - these hours will be rostered across 7 days in 4 shifts across 4 non-consecutive days, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Clinical Support team as the Deputy Manager. The Clinical Support team are often the first point of contact for patients having an Imaging appointment so is an important part to play in the patient journey.

It is an exciting time to join the team at Milton Keynes Imaging Department as a new Scanning Centre is being built, scheduled to open in 2026, as well as new Community Diagnostic Centres opening around Milton Keynes. 

Our Imaging Department has a wide range of imaging modalities and has a Trust wide PACS. We invest in high quality patient care of which we can proud and in which the local community has confidence. We aim to recognise all our staff as individuals and help each to realise their full potential. 

We value excellent communication and organisational skills, a commitment to Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and strong knowledge of radiation protection, legislation and health & safety requirements. Flexibility and a patient-centred approach are essential.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

You will assist with the direct care of patients undergoing Imaging examinations with all Imaging modalities. You will also be responsible for the line management of the Clinical Support team undertaking such tasks as roster writing and attending departmental meetings.

  • To provide comprehensive clinical and technical support to the consultant radiologists, sonographers, radiographers and the patients attending the imaging department. The job role will require you to work shift patterns covering from 0800 to 2100 across 7 days per week in a non-consecutive manner. 
  • To line-manage and coordinate the assistants, porters, and housekeepers within the Imaging department at the acute hospital site and community diagnostic centres.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels across all areas of Imaging and maintain high performance output of clinical support team. 
  • Involvement with recruitment and selection processes for imaging clinical support team as required.
  • Formulate weekly staff rotas and adjust on a daily basis to meet organisational and waiting time requirements.
  • Ensure clinical support team training is complete and organise any training requirements for new equipment and procedures, and for when practice changes.
  • To give advice and support to clinical support team members on how to deliver appropriate patient care that meets with the standard set by MKUH.

Communication & relationship building: 

  • Demonstrate good effective communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of registered practitioners, clinicians and non-medical teams both within imaging and also trust wide.

Responsibilities for analysis: 

  • Monitor the waiting list figures & appointment availability and produce data to help managers keep track of problem areas.

Responsibilities for planning & organisation of activities: 

  • Responsible for organising own day to day work and assisting with that of medical and qualified health professional colleagues.

Policies and service development: 

  • Contribute to the development of clinical governance processes relevant to imaging clinical support team.

Financial responsibility: 

  • Required to handle and care for imaging equipment and computerised equipment.

Managing people: 

  • Undertake recruitment of imaging clinical support staff.

Responsibility for patients: 

  • Reception duties ensuring patients are greeted and identified, personal details checked.

Responsibility for information resources: 

  • Use a variety of IT systems which are essential to the performance of their day-to-day work including Microsoft applications (i.e., Microsoft Office 365 applications- MS teams, outlook, work, excel, Healthroster, RADAR, radiology information system (i.e., CRIS) and hospital information system (i.e., Cerner).

Research & development: 

  • To keep up to date with current issues and developments within imaging. Share best practice and inform other staff of new imaging service developments which affects the clinical support team

Freedom to act: 

  • Undertaking a period of in-post training for 6-12 months to understand all aspects of the post and to attend other training courses as required. 

Other responsibilities: 

  • Have a flexible approach to how contracted hours of work are scheduled and work location.
