Job overview

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital NHS Trust provides a full range of high quality NHS health care to the people of outer North East London and South West Essex. We serve a population of 750,000 and employ 6,000 staff, making us one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. We operate from two major hospitals, King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford and Community Diagnostic Centre at Barking Hospital and St Georges Health and Wellbeing Hub.

The Trust is committed to working closely with its partners in the community to place patients’ needs at the centre of its services. The Trust’s primary aim is to provide the right care, in the right place and at the right time to the highest standards.

Queen’s Hospital is situated close to the A12, within walking distance of Romford British Rail Station and local amenities. King George Hospital is situated in Barley Lane, Goodmayes with good transport links.

The Radiology departments provides a wide range of imaging services including fully digital general x-ray department, CT, MRI, Neuro and Vascular Interventional Radiology, Cardiac Angiography, Dexa and Ultrasound.
We are looking for suitably qualified staff to perform the duties of a radiographic support worker; to provide support to radiologists, radiographers and to maintain smooth patient flows throughout the department. You should be able to undertake a number of duties that support the activities of the MRI department. You will be required to work cross-site – weekday /weekend and out of hour duties, we are a 7 day working department. These duties are divided into three main areas: Care of the patient, Clerical duties and the Working environment.

Applicants who have recent NHS experience are desirable.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide support to Radiologists, Radiographers and Sonographers within Radiology, including preparation and tidying of rooms, care of patients, checking vital signs, IV cannulation, clerical and processing duties.

Working for our organisation

We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with. We’re no longer in special measures; we’ve opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and, in recognition of our progress, we’ve been shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the Health Service Journal Awards.

We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub.

These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 94,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We’re looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
