An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Neurological Rehabilitation team at Clayponds Hospital to work in our skilled and friendly MDT in West London.
This role would suit a clinician who wishes to develop their clinical skills in neurological rehabilitation as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
As the Band 6 Occupational Therapist you will be expected to carry a clinical caseload and provide clinical leadership to students and Rehabilitation Assistants. You will work closely with the Band 7 Occupational Therapist and the wider MDT to provide high quality rehabilitation to patients on Rosemary Ward and participate in service evaluation nd development. You will be required to deputise for the Band 7 Occupational Therapist and work as part of the therapy team to provide holistic rehabilitation for our patients in the neuro-rehabilitation ward.
Rosemary ward is a level 3 Neuro rehabilitation unit, however the caseload can include patients who require general rehabilitation.
There is free parking and therapy garden on site and opportunities to develop your specialist skills and knowledge and manage staff in a supportive environment.
The successful candidate would be part of a supportive and friendly AHP team including Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dieticians, Psychology, Therapy Technicians, as well as part of a bigger MDT of our Nurses, Doctors and Pharmacists.
Main duties of the job
Rosemary Ward is an integral part of the wider Intermediate Care team based at Clayponds Hospital. Patients have access to a variety of equipment in a large unique gym space and additional specific designated ADL rooms. Patients receive specialist therapy input until they are able to return their to preferred discharge destination (where appropriate) with support from our excellent community teams as needed.
To assess patients within neurological rehabilitation needs who may have complex acute and/or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnosis and Occupational Therapy treatment.
To manage your own caseload including assessment, treatment and support of clients applying specialist skills re assessment and treatment within the Neurological Rehabilitation care remit.
To train and supervise more junior staff across the wards and support students on placement.
To work under the direction of the Lead Occupational Therapist, Lead Physiotherapist and Lead Speech and Language Therapist in planning, developing, delivering and evaluating the therapy service provided to Neurological Rehabilitation patients.
To work with the rest of the Occupational Therapy staff within intermediate care to ensure a cohesive and smooth therapy offer across intermediate care.
To contribute actively to in-house training and development of the therapy team and your own professional development

Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- • Diploma/BSc in Occupational Therapy
- • Health and Care Professions Council registration (HCPC).
Desirable criteria
- • Member of BAOT
- • Evidence of significant post qualifying development including MSc in a related subject or equivalent CPD
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Substantial post graduate experience to include relevant specialist courses.
- • Substantial experience within Physical health care at Band 5 level.
- • Experience in neurology, acute medicine, respiratory, elderly care
- • Experience of assessing complex disability using clinical reasoning skills
- • Membership of appropriate specialist interest group
- • Experience of manually handling patients and/or equipment safely to attain positioning necessary to perform safe and effective clinical assessments and treatments.
- • Highly developed manual handling, therapeutic and positioning skills
- • Goal directed programme development skills for patients with a range of complex presentations.
- • Experience of using cognitive, behavioural and communication strategies to ensure optimal treatment outcomes and rehabilitation goals are met.

- • Understanding of community support agencies and other professions, and ability to work and liaise with them
- • Basic IT skills.
- • Basic working knowledge of Orthotics or desire to develop them.

- • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to date clinical trends, practices and models used in the treatment of people with neurological conditions.
