There is a vacancy for a Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join the team at the Watford Renal Centre, a satellite of the Imperial College Renal and Transplant Centre.
An opportunity has arisen for an individual with excellent communication skills to join our team on this 20-stationed chronic haemodialysis unit.
The successful candidate will assist registered nursing staff in caring for patients who require haemodialysis and become a member of the multidisciplinary care team.
The setting up and decontamination of equipment is a major part of this role. The work is routine, physically demanding, challenging and rewarding.
Main duties of the job
- Welcome and escort patients from the waiting area into the dialysis unit.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living in accordance with their plan of care.
- Assist patients and ambulance staff to mobilise and/or transfer onto and out of haemodialysis chairs, in accordance with the patient’s individual manual handling risk assessment and plan of care.
- Promote, monitor and maintain a working environment that is safe and clean for attending patients and staff.
- Promote, monitor and maintain the safety and security of the ward environment and promptly report faulty equipment to registered nurse according to ward policy and procedure.
- To use effective communication skills with staff, patients, relatives and visitors ensuring that confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Attend ward handover and staff meetings and make valuable contributions towards the smooth running of the clinical area.
- Participate in the ordering and stock control of unit supplies, maintain appropriate records.
- To attend Trust mandatory training and 2 yearly updates, in accordance with policy and procedure.
