Rotational Physiotherapist
Band 5

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Rotational Band 5 Physiotherapist working across Inpatient oncology areas at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
This will involve rotating between Critical Care and Surgery, and medical and clinical oncology wards.
As a rotational Band 5 Physiotherapist you will gain experience in critical care, surgery, neuro rehabilitation, metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC), haematology and general oncology.

To assess and treat oncology inpatients within the Christie utilising clinical reasoning and clinical skills with guidance and supervision from Senior Physiotherapists.
To deliver a high standard of therapy intervention to individuals following cancer surgery and treatments, and those for supportive or palliative care.
To contribute to the emergency on call rota, including overnight and weekend working.
To contribute to learning and development in the rehabilitation department by participating in the In-service training rota.
To contribute to the clinical supervision of physiotherapy students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
1. To undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose and implement treatment plans if appropriate in a manner that respects people’s privacy, dignity and individuality.
2. To rotate as part of the Band 5 rotation programme.
3. To be a member of the multi-disciplinary team and actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings and joint working, including integrated working
4. To ensure effective internal and external two-way communication with patients, carers and all other medical, health and social care professionals regarding all aspects of patient care. Providing and receiving complex information, which requires empathy and reassurance. Communicating where there may be barriers to understanding
5. To carry out generic therapy assessments identifying and ordering appropriate equipment for discharge with guidance from senior physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists.
6. To maintain accurate professional documentation in line with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy standards and local policies and procedures. To contribute to documentation monitoring as required.
7. To liaise regularly with Senior colleagues regarding caseloads, treatment progression and ongoing care
8. To assist where necessary in the provision of cover for the department in times of annual leave / sickness etc.
9. To assess patients for specialist equipment e.g., wheelchairs, hoists and walking aids.
10. To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all physiotherapy equipment and ensure that assistants, physiotherapy students, carers and other health care professionals attain competency prior to use.
11. To produce timely and informative reports and discharge summaries for other agencies, e.g., GP’s, consultants, social services, primary care colleagues to ensure effective and seamless pathways of care.
12. To be involved with facilitating appropriate discharge planning alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
13. To contribute to the evening and weekend on-call respiratory rota once competencies within this area have been demonstrated and assessed by the senior respiratory team.
14. To participate in flexible working to cover shift, evening, weekend, and bank holiday services as required which may include 6 day working

To be professional, legally responsible, and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.
To be responsible for remaining up to date with new developments through ongoing continuous professional development.
To work within the guidelines of the policies, procedures, and standards of The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
To be an active member of the in-service training programme.
To undertake the measurement and evaluation of clinical practice through use of evidence-based practice projects and audits, and to initiate and implement changes to working practice and policies where this will result in improved performance/patient care across the organisation.
To demonstrate a sound understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
To ensure treatments offered to patients are based on the best available clinical evidence, under the guidance of Senior Physiotherapists.
To attend relevant training courses, disseminating information from training attended as required. To complete annual appraisals and a Personal Development Plan. To undertake regular training and mentoring sessions with senior staff to monitor and develop clinical and professional skills.
To teach and advise carers and other Health Professionals to ensure provision of good patient care.
ORGANISATIONAL
To be responsible for a designated area of work as agreed with the physiotherapy team leaders.
To prioritise workload, balancing patient related and professional demands and ensure that these remain in accordance with the department as a whole.
To be responsible for equipment used in carrying out physiotherapy duties.
To comply with departmental/organisational procedures and guidelines.
To participate in the Trust’s mandatory training programme.
To ensure that any equipment, furniture or building in need of repair is reported to the correct authority as necessary.
To participate in a 6 day working model as necessary

Experience

- Experience of working in a range of physiotherapy settings during student placements or as a Band 5.
