This is an Infectious Diseases Senior Fellow  post, at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.  It is suitable for applicants seeking training and experience in infectious disease and will join our existing NTN Speciality Trainees in Infectious Diseases at UHS. 

University Hospital Southampton Foundation Trust is a large teaching hospital and Foundation Trust providing acute district services to the City of Southampton and immediate surroundings and acute regional services to a catchment population of up to 3 million for Cardiac, Neuroscience, Paediatric Oncology, Paediatric Surgery and Specialist Adult Surgical services.

The Department of Infection provides comprehensive infection services including an inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases service, a comprehensive clinical microbiology service, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), antibiotic stewardship and infection prevention activities.  The adult infectious diseases team comprises one of the medical specialty firms within the Specialist Medicine Care Group; the clinical caseload includes the end-to-end inpatient care of patients with HIV infection, tuberculosis, imported infection, Pyrexia of Unknown Origin, complex bone and joint infection, disseminated bacterial infection and patients with other complex/severe community acquired infections including severe sepsis.

Contribution to the infectious diseases inpatient and outpatient service including:

1. To be responsible at registrar level for infectious diseases inpatients at UHS including daily reviews and management under supervision of the infectious diseases consultants.

2. To be responsible at registrar level for the daily assessment and management of Infectious Diseases ‘pick ups’ from the Acute Medical Unit and for other ward consults referred by other speciality teams at UHS

3. To contribute to the infectious diseases out-patient clinics at UHS.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  
Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).  Applicants requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application. 

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. 

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)     

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5; 
•    Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training    
•    Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS) 
•    A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise
  • Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • MRCP
  • 4 years post-graduate training, including 2 in relevant medical specialty equivalent to core medical training ST1/2
  • Extensive and in-depth knowledge of working within the NHS
