Job overview

Barts Health has an opportunity for a dynamic individual within their state of the art oncology pharmacy department. This post offers an individual the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in the area of Oncology and contribute to the highly motivated and innovative cancer pharmacy clinical team.

This job presents an exciting opportunity for you to further develop your expertise in all aspects of oncology. You will gain clinical and managerial experience from working within our well-established team of oncology pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

The position is based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital but you will also visit other sites within Barts Health. This post will allow you to develop your managerial skills and gain in depth experience in clinical trials, commissioning, finance and e-prescribing as well as providing you the opportunity to provide clinical pharmacy services to a wide array of Cancer patients including solid tumour, haemato-oncology and haematopoietic stem cell transplant.

The Cancer Pharmacy Clinical Team is well established within Barts Cancer Centre and we provide inpatient, outpatient and daycase SACT services. Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of the post holder is to:

·         Ensure a safe, efficient oncology pharmacy service that meets the needs of the users

·         Optimise medicine use in individual patients

·         Work closely with the multidisciplinary and wider pharmacy teams to optimise patient flow

·         Draw up and implement formulary guidance, based on available evidence, national guidance and commissioning policies in Cancer

·         Oversee the drug budget for Pharmacy Cancer Services; identify and deliver cost improvement plans for medicines expenditure in conjunction with the relevant teams

·         Ensure all regulatory guidance is adhered to e.g., GMP and GCP

·         Ensure the Cancer Pharmacy Team are achieving their key performance indicator (KPI) targets

·         Ensure all members of the Cancer Pharmacy Team are set clear objectives and are competent in their roles

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates basic project management skills
  • Demonstrates ability to manage others and delegate as appropriate

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration in a hospital based post
  • Previous experience of working within oncology providing a pharmacy service to oncology wards
  • Previous experience of working within aseptics, including chemotherapy delivery
  • Experience of supervising cytotoxic reconstitution services
  • Experience in successfully managing and organising staff and work / projects
  • Previous evaluations or reviews of cancer medicines

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
  • Specialist postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice or equivalen
  • Specialist postgraduate certificate in Technical services E.g. national course in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Assurance, or equivalent knowledge and experience or Specialist postgraduate Diploma in Pharmacy Practice or equivalent knowledge and experience
  • Independent prescribing qualification or willingness to work towards

  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
  • Member of British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA)
