Our evolving Medicines Management team are looking for a dynamic and passionate Pharmacy Technician looking to specialise in a role working within the Emergency Department. Your expertise will help optimize medication use, support clinical teams, and improve patient outcomes in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support safe, timely, and effective use of medicines across the Emergency Department
Conduct medication histories and medicines reconciliation for expected admissions.
Assist in the supply, stock control, and optimisation of medication usage at ward level
Work closely with pharmacists, nursing staff, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless medicines-related care.

Qualifications / training required
Essential criteria
- Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC
- Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent
- One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications – Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff
- Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision
Desirable criteria
- Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent
- Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g. Completed APTUK Foundation Framework Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience
Previous or relevant experience necessary
Essential criteria
- Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics)
- Maintaining continuous professional development portfolio
- Dealing with customers/patients
Desirable criteria
- Hospital pharmacy experience
- Stock control/ordering experience
- Experience of JAC or similar computer labelling/ordering system
- Experience relevant to role applied for e.g.Providing a ward based medicines management service , Clinical Trials or research experience, Aseptic services experience

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
