This is a new post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to provide Clinical Oncology management and treatment with in the HPB and Colorectal Disease Groups.
The Clinical Oncologist appointed will work with the HPB and Colorectal teams to provide a comprehensive clinical service for their patients. This includes patients in the outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory settings, delivering Radiotherapy and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) whilst also providing Clinical Oncology input to the associated MDTs.
This post will demonstrate excellent and equitable clinical outcomes and patient safety, patient experience and clinical effectiveness for those patients living with and beyond cancer and will also support the existing teams with the increase in activity and the management of the waiting times for their disease groups.
All Disease Group consultants work as part of a multi-disciplinary team supporting the delivery of this work including Nurse Clinicians/Advanced Clinical Practitioners (including trainee’s) 8.65 WTE, Clinical Nurse Specialists 7.66 WTE, Clinical/research Fellows 1.8 WTE, Specialist Trainees 4.4 WTE along with access to a team of Pharmacists, Research Nurses and Specialist Radiographers 2 WTE.

Colorectal
The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in colorectal oncology delivering radiotherapy & systemic therapy.
The post holder will be actively involved delivering all aspects of radiotherapy & encouraged to engage with teams supporting SABR, Proton or MR Linac development. Well supported team structure & ethos facilitates cross-cover of clinical work. Training/mentorship can be provided if required.
Post holder is expected to take on leadership, training & management roles as an active member of the Clinical Oncology. Examples include: being a Chair of a clinial committee, Clinical Lead of a clinical pathway or clinical representative at Trust meetings.
HPB
Appointee will provide consultant level care for patients with HPB malignancies (composed of pancreatic cancer, biliary tract cancers (cholangiocarcinoma and gallbladder cancer), hepatocellular carcinoma) & abdominal oligometastatic tumours. Including providing specialist expertise Radiotherapy (including MR guided Adaptive RT) & systemic therapy, Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy & other precision radiation treatment options for abdominal oligometastatic sites, outpatient care through the outpatient clinics and Linacs, where Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy and Radiotherapy treatments are delivered, as well as inpatient care on the main adult oncology wards.
Both area’s have very active research studies on going.

The appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in colorectal oncology delivering radiotherapy and systemic therapy.
There are 5 clinical oncology consultant posts working in this team currently, Professor M Saunders and Drs. Noo Alam, Claire Arthur, Vicky Lavin and Peter Mbanu. The successful applicant will join this consultant body covering Colorectal malignancies.
The group has a very active clinical research programme and are supported by clinical research fellows, specialist registrars, advanced clinical practitioners, research nurses and radiographers, clinical nurse specialists, physicists and clinical trials coordinators. There is currently collaborative working within both the Lower GI medical and clinical oncology research teams which the successful applicant will be expected to participate in. The group meet regularly to discuss research, team structure and to maintain effective team working.
The post holder will be actively involved in delivering all aspects of radiotherapy and will be encouraged to engage with teams supporting SABR, Proton or MR Linac development. The well supported team structure and ethos facilitates cross-cover of clinical work. Training/mentorship can be provided if required.
The radiotherapy department equipment includes IMRT, IGRT and 4-D adaptive. The Christie does have a Brachytherapy service however this is not required for this role.
