Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a dynamic pharmacist to join the NEL ICB Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team. In the changing NHS Landscape, the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation Team is continuously developing collaborative engagement with partners across the borough and the wider North East London environment. Through commissioning, the team promotes the development of safe and effective provider-based medicines optimisation functions, to enable clinical and cost-effective use of medicines for our population.

Main duties of the job

This post is based in the Pharmacy and Medicines Optimisation team. The team provides an effective and professional Medicines Optimisation service to our local boroughs as well as matrix working across the borough and its stakeholders. The post holder will support the safe, quality and cost-effective use of medicines, that is evidence based, by implementing the principles of medicines optimisation. Senior Medicines Optimisation pharmacists will also be expected to support NEL-wide initiatives, programmes or work and/or clinical specialties, as agreed and allocated. This may involve working under the supervision of a different Lead/Head of/ Deputy Director of Medicines Optimisation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will have the following qualifications:

 Masters of Pharmacy degree (or equivalent)

         Professional registration with General Pharmaceutical Council

·       Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience

 Contract: 0.8 WTE fixed term contract ending 31st March 2026

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Pharmacy
  • Educated to masters level or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in medicines optimisation.
  • Professional membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent working knowledge of national and local pharmaceutical and prescribing policies, clinical governance, information governance, legislation and guidance which relates to medicines supply, prescribing and practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of supporting GP practices including implementing prescribing change Extensive, community, primary care and /or hospital pharmacy experience or experience of providing prescribing support to primary care organisations or practices
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
