We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed nursery nurse to join us in our 8 bedded Mother and Baby Unit, which offers specialist treatment of women with Perinatal Mental Health difficulties. You will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team within the inpatient setting providing quality care to women and their infants.

Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the infants, promoting interaction and stimulation of infants and supporting the mums in their role as mothers. 

Care is provided over a 24-hour period and team members work rotational shift patterns including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays to facilitate this.

You will be expected to complete all statutory and mandatory trainings identified by our trust which will include the prevention and management of violence and aggression and basic resuscitation, and our team are required to support the other mental health units on site when emergencies occur.

We are committed to continued professional development and therefore Specialist Perinatal training and clinical supervision will be provided.

The nursery nurse will assist mothers with perinatal mental health problems to care for their babies, ensure that the emotional and physical needs of the babies are met and engage in activities to promote the mother-infant relationship.

The core purpose of the team in which the post-holder will work, is to deliver high quality, tailored interventions in maternal mental health and attachment based approaches to mothers and infants.

Specialist provision comprises inpatient child and adolescent mental health services, perinatal mental health and forensic services including low and medium secure care.

  • Degree Level qualification in Children’s Care or,
  • BA (hons) in childhood studies or,
  • Degree Level qualification in Children’s Care, Learning and Development
  • Equivalent qualifications and experience

Knowledge

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the physical, emotional needs of babies
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Safeguarding children issues and The 1989 Children Act
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Experience

  • Knowledge of Safeguarding Legislation
  • Able to undertake administrative tasks
