Job overview

The post will provide clinical leadership to SLT staff in the Preston team, as well as the development of clinical pathways across Lancashire. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical expertise in Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) across Central and West and Pennine SLT teams.  This will involve regular updates of the DLD clinical pathway in line with the current evidence base, updating and providing DLD specific training for SLTs, parents and wider professionals and providing second opinions for SLTs working with children with DLD across the Trust.   

Main duties of the job

You will manage a complex caseload and be capable of working autonomously to provide direct clinical care. You will be able to provide effective clinical and professional supervision, be able to identify training needs of individuals and lead on the delivery of suitable training, demonstrating high level, expert speech and language therapy skills and knowledge. Within Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust we are passionate about providing the best possible care and continuing to improve and develop the services we provide. We are looking for a motivated person who has an interest in service transformation to improve speech, language and communication skills for children and young people. 

This is a fixed term post, 26 hours a week, to cover maternity leave, for a period of 12 months.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional Degree or equivalent in speech and language therapy
  • Current Professional Registration with HCPC
  • Evidence of formal training / self study / specialist experience to Masters level equivalent

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Detailed understanding of clinical governance framework & implications for practice, including audit and research governance
  • Extensive knowledge of a range of therapy techniques and programmes and their applications for children with diverse needs/ related to client group
  • Highly motivated to explore and lead creative and innovative ways of working

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Confident to work independently as lead specialist
  • Ability to critically analyse and evaluate service issues to promote service improvement.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data /evidence and apply to practice

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent and relevant post graduate experience encompassing the specialist field of practice. that demonstrates an in depth knowledge of specialist area
  • Safeguarding of children and implementation of policy and procedures with evidence of training/updates
  • Demonstrable evidence of improving and developing service and practice
