Job overview
The Gardening Services provides a high-quality service to maintain the grounds and gardens of The Christie NHSFT Withington site and portfolio of off-site properties to provide a safe and pleasant external environment.
The Environmental Officer – Grounds & Gardens will assist in providing support with the maintenance of the sites cleanliness.
Working alongside and under the Head Gardeners instruction.
Along with the above tasks additional daily various types of work including road sweeping and litter/debris collection as well as snow clearing and gritting of the footpaths and roads.
Main duties of the job
1) Road sweeping, litter/debris, the emptying of bins across the main site and off-site properties by hand and with machinery.
2) Gritting of footpaths and roads during adverse winter weather conditions.
3) To complete daily and weekly maintenance and service tasks as requested.
4) Participate in ad hoc local arrangements for snow clearing and gritting when weather conditions dictate outside out of hours working.
5) Support Estate personnel in assisting/liaising with site customers and contractors.
6) To work with all Estates Supervisors and managers in the management of Risks. This will include working to agreed Risk Assessments and assisting in the development of additional Risk Assessments.
7) Advise the Head Gardener regarding plant and equipment failure, identify materials required to complete tasks.
8) Carry out all duties in a professional and conscientious manner.
9) Wear The Christie NHSFT maintenance service uniform, identification badges and personal protective equipment at all time.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE Garde A-C or equivalent English & Maths
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of Gardening equipment: • Brush cutters • Trimmers • Health and Safety
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate previous experience in a maintenance support role within a building/maintenance environment/team.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in NHS building/maintenance, public facing environment/team.
Skills
Essential criteria
- Basic practical skills in the use of • Access equipment • Hand tools • Power tools • PPE
Desirable criteria
