We are currently recruiting for Occupational Therapists to join an established mental health rotation. 

We are looking for individuals who are;

  • Passionate about occupation and its role in mental health
  • Able and willing to engage in flexible working, including shifts and weekends.
  • Able to work in various team and on different sites across Leeds and York

Our mental health rotation offers a great start to a career in mental health Occupational Therapy, with opportunities to work in various groups of service users in different stages in their care pathway.

The following are just some of the areas that are currently part of the rotation however your rotation will being in our older peoples inpatient services at The Mount, across wards 3 and 4:

  • Adult and Older Peoples Acute Inpatient Services
  • Dementia Inpatient
  • Intensive Community Services
  • Adult and Older People Community Mental Health Teams
  • Care Homes Service
  • Assertive Outreach
  • Rehabilitation and Recovery Services
  • Forensic Service
  • CAMHS Inpatient
  • Complex Emotional Needs Service
  • Learning Disabilities Community Team
  • Primary Care Mental Health

You will be supported in your personal and professional development via clinical supervision, training and other Continuing Professional Development opportunities. The Trust has an established Preceptorship Programme for new graduates offering specific support and develop throughout your first year.

The Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LYPFT) is the main provider of Mental Health and Learning Disability services in Leeds. We also provide specialist inpatient services in York and some highly specialised services across the country. As a teaching trust with strong links to local universities, we are a centre of excellence for teaching, research and development.

Although each rotation setting differs, there are common expectations and responsibilities for you as an Occupational Therapist.

·                     To utilise your core occupational therapy skills to provide occupational therapy intervention appropriate to the team you are based in.

·                     To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of intervention for defined Service Users, both on an individual basis and within a group setting

This will include

o   Clear understanding of the OT process

o   Knowledge of theoretical frameworks, models and approaches and OT assessment tools

o   Using activities to promote health, wellbeing and function

o   Planning, organising and leading activity groups

o   Analysing and adapting environments to increase function and social participation

·                     You will have an accredited qualification in occupational therapy and HCPC registration, which you take responsibility to maintain this by meeting RCOT and HCPC standards.

·                     To understand and use appropriate risk assessments.

·                     To actively engage in the occupational therapy professional support structure e.g. clinical supervision and preceptorship development programme.

·                     To maintain accurate and appropriate clinical records in accordance with professional standards

·                     To gain consent and build a collaborative relationship with Service Users that will promote engagement in the therapeutic process adapting to barriers in communication which Service Users may present with e.g. emotional, psychological, physical.

·                     To co-ordinate and communicate care packages or treatment plans for defined Service Users both verbally through multi-disciplinary meetings, team integration and telephone and non-verbally through care planning, reports and documentation.  Also through carers and other agencies.

·                     To contribute to the day to day running of the team you are based in.

·                     Delegate safely, be aware of own gaps in competencies seeking support when required.
