Employer heading
Consultant in Anaesthetics (Pain Management)
Consultant
Job overview
We are currently recruiting for a Consultant in Chronic Pain Management and Anaesthetics based at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
The role allows the successful candidate to work flexibly as part of our team and support the wider multidisciplinary team using our biopsychosocial approach. The post attracts 10 PAs with sessions in anaesthesia as well as sessions in acute & chronic pain. There is no on-call commitment, but this could be negotiated, if the successful candidate is interested.
Main duties of the job
The clinical lead for pain is Dr Catherine James who works across both inpatient and outpatient pain management. The inpatient service is further supported by an extra consultant session per week and the outpatient service supported by two other part-time consultants. The wider team consists of a B8 nurse, 3 B7 nurses, 2 Specialist Pain Physiotherapists, a Specialist Pain Psychologist and 2 administrative staff.
The pain department is formed of a supportive, knowledgeable and creative team who work well together to provide the best service for our patients. We continually develop and expand our service, involving our staff and service users in tandem and have recently won a grant to pilot an online pain management programme supported by health coaches. The service aims to empower people with persistent pain to develop their understanding, skills and confidence to live a full and meaningful life. The pain component will represent at least 50% of the job plan with the remaining sessions taken up with anaesthetic services within a 4-week job plan. However, the session mix between anaesthesia and Chronic Pain is negotiable, with a minimum of 50% pain.
