Job overview

The Hounslow Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Team are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Band 6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to work in the Specialist Centres and Units Team.

 

The Specialist Centres and Units Team deliver high‑quality speech and language therapy to school‑aged children and young people from Reception through to 18 years old. We work across a range of specialist centres attached to mainstream schools that support pupils with diverse special educational needs. These include (but are not limited to) Autism, Moderate Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities, Deafness or Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, and Speech, Language and Communication Needs.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an SLT who is committed to providing high quality and responsive support to children and young people with speech, language and communication needs in Specialist Centres.  Your role will be to ensure the delivery of EHCP provision whilst providing specialist clinical decision-making, including assessment, differential diagnosis, treatment, evaluation and general independent management of a diverse and complex caseload. Experience in Augmentative and Alternative Communication is desirable.

 

You will be working closely as part of a multidisciplinary team, including families, peers and professionals across both health and education settings, to support children and young people across the Hounslow borough.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree / diploma or other professional Speech and Language Therapy qualification
  • Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Registered with RCSLT
  • Demonstrates interest in a specialist clinical area
  • Membership of relevant Special Interest Group or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience in working as a Speech and Language therapist with at least some experience of working within an educational setting
  • Experience of carrying out specialist assessments and intervention
  • Experience of developing implementing a Total Communication Approach
  • Experience of working within a multi-agency/disciplinary team
  • Experience training a range of professionals
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of assessing and using low-tech and high-tech AAC

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Competent computer skills
  • Ability to write clear concise reports (including contribution to the EHCP or Annual Review process).
  • Advanced knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools relevant to the client group
  • Well established knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group/s)
