Royal Surrey Cancer Centre is based within the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust Hospital. The unit was established in 1996, under the name of St Luke’s Cancer Centre, and serves a population of approximately 1.2 million across Surrey and West Sussex. It is highly regarded for the excellent care it provides and for its work with the University of Surrey and major pharmaceutical companies in conducting vital research to support the development of new cancer treatments.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the existing Metastatic Breast Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist team. This exciting role will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients with a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer.
We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic, Clinical Nurse Specialist, to provide keyworker support to these patients alongside developing and expanding an already excellent service.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the strategic direction and delivery of a quality service to patients and lead and develop this specialist nursing service within the Trust, working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary teams.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a high level of up-to-date relevant clinical knowledge and experience with relevant post registration training and development in cancer care. In addition the post-holder must have excellent communication and decision making skills, be able to work as part of a team, but also work autonomously with minimum supervision.
Job Summary
To provide a holistic, patient - focused service delivering evidence based information and advice to patients with secondary breast cancer, supporting them and their families throughout diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care.
To work as a core member of the multidisciplinary team providing expert advice and education.
To act as 'key worker' within the multidisciplinary team, taking a central role coordinating individual patients care; promoting continuity through the treatment modalities, and to provide patients with a primary point of contact for information and advice.

1.1 Provide evidence based clinical care, advice and support to breast patients and their families and carers.
1.2 Deliver research and evidence based education and advice and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and allied health professionals
1.3 Communicate very sensitive secondary breast cancer related information to both patients their relatives and carers. This will include imparting information concerning a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer, pathology results and prognostic information, as well as information about treatment options, including in the terminal stages of the disease.
1.4 Provide empathy and understanding and enable breast cancer patients to voice their concerns; to be involved in the planning of patients care and act as patient advocate where necessary.
1.5 Participate in health promotion relating to breast disease/cancer to patients, carers, staff and the general public.
1.6 Participate in recruitment to clinical breast cancer trials.
1.7 Undertake research and audit in the breast care services provided, evaluate findings and implement change, where appropriate.
1.8 Develop specialist programmes of care, write and update protocols for breast care nursing services, and set standards of care by implementing national standards of care for women with breast cancer.
1.9 Act as mentor and facilitator to nursing (pre and post registration), medical and allied medical professionals as part of their training.
1.10 Advise, educate and update the local breast cancer support group(s) and other associated voluntary bodies.
1.11 Attend combined breast oncology clinics; liaise with oncology department to facilitate care for patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
