Main duties of the job
The post is new and you will be responsible for managing the Medicines Management Technician Team. Your aim will be to support our department to deliver its priorities by focussing pharmacy services at ward level.
The post holder will help represent the department at Trust-wide and divisional levels to support the development of the pharmacy and medicines strategies within the Trust, and will work closely with the pharmacy teams to deliver this strategy.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Responsible for the development and provision of the technical aspects of the Medicines Management (MM) service across the Trust.
• Responsible for the line management of the Lead Medicines Management Technicians.
• Responsible for the day to day supervision and co-ordination of ward activities of the technicians allocated to the MM service.
• Responsible for the management of the MM technical pharmacy team to provide an efficient, accurate and flexible service to the hospital wards.
• Responsible for the training of all new pharmacy staff in the technical aspects of MM against the standards of In-house, induction and regional training programmes.
• Provide a regular MM service to a clinical area as well as cover for other wards as required by the service.
• Deputise for the pharmacy operations manager in their absence
JOB SUMMARY
The post holder will have continuing operational responsibility for the development and provision of the Medicines Management service, provide clinical leadership and co-ordinate activity for the team.
• Provides a clinical leadership role across the Trust to improve medicines management, promote independence and improve care outcomes for our patients.
• Leads on the development of strategies to support improvements in medicines management in the trust setting, with the aim of reducing risk, improving quality, to support the needs of a high functioning team.
• Proactively identifies new opportunities for improvement within the Medicines Management Service and promoting cost effective prescribing.
• Works to ensure the performance management and recruitment needs of the pharmacy are met.
• Responsible for the day to day management of the MM Service to ensure a high quality and operationally efficient pharmacy service.
• Deputises for the Pharmacy Operations Manager in their absence and acts as a point of contact and support for the dispensary and distribution teams
• Leads the development of effective auditable monitoring mechanism systems, improving the standards of medicines management.
• Supports and ensures the recruitment, training programs, induction plans, and competency assessments are developed and maintained in the Medicines Management Team.
• Provide medicines management cover to wards as required by the service. This includes obtaining and documenting patient medication histories, assessing suitability of PODs, discharge planning and ordering and transcribing medication for inpatients

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus underpinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or an equivalent accredited qualification
- Accredited Checking Technician
- Accredited Medicines Management Technician
- Educational Supervisor or and equivalent qualification
- Appointing Officer Training
- Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- In excess of 3 years’ experience of a Band 6 Technician working in secondary care
- Demonstrable previous experience of dealing with the public and wider multi-disciplinary team
- Sound clinical Knowledge of medicine management in Secondary healthcare.
- Staff Management experience
- Training experience
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development, education and training
Desirable criteria
- Previous recruitment experience
- Previous participation in project work
- Evidence of implementing changes
