Main duties of the job
We are excited to be recruiting to our fantastic stroke nursing team on F8. F8 Acute stroke rehabilitation unit comprises of 28 beds with a purpose built therapy kitchen and gym. We pride ourselves on dedicated stroke specific care for patients on the stroke pathway here at UHS. Once patients have completed their hyperacute stay, they come to F8 for their acute care and stroke specific rehabilitation. We work together with our stroke specialist MDT to provide patient centred stroke care 24/7. This role provides variety off all aspects of stroke care and will include acute stroke care and the crucial role of rehabilitation to enhance a patients recovery too. We have the pleasure to see the direct impact we have on people's recovery from strokes, we pride ourselves on the expertise of complex discharge and also have the skills to provide specialised end of life care too for our patients. We are always improving and actively develop our staff by providing a place for all staff on the MDT lead stroke course which is a 2 day course as part of your induction. There is also opportunity to be placed on the neuro course too. The team is lead by Emma the ward leader and 4 dedicated sisters who all have a wealth of expertise in stroke care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The ideal candidate must have a valid nursing registration and PIN.
Clear communication is essential, particularly for stroke patients as they can have communication difficulties
You must be able to do full moving and handling
Shift patterns can be flexible but it is expected that you will cover both day and night shifts, this will include some weekend working too. Some staff chose to do Long days and nights, others prefer to do shorter shifts and nights.
Stroke experience would be great but is not essential as training will be provided

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Qualified Nurse (Degree/Diploma)
- Registered nurse on appropriate part of the register
- Knowledge of current issues within acute Health Service
- Understanding of personal accountability
- Knowledge of own role within the team
- Provide evidence of teaching and supporting learners in practice in the role of practice supervisor
- Awareness of evidence-based practice
- Awareness of responsibilities for management of infection control
- Evidence of on-going personal development
- Able to use initiative
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of recent study
- Previous experience/qualification in relevant specialty
- Teaching experience
