If you’re a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician who thrives in a fast paced clinical environment and enjoys contributing to real time clinical decision making, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician (MMPT) to join our expanding clinical pharmacy team within one of the UK’s leading NHS Trusts. This role is based across St Mary’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital, where you will play a key role in delivering high quality clinical pharmacy services at the frontline of patient care. 

You will work closely with Emergency Medicine, Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Elderly Medicine wards, supporting medicines optimisation and safe use of medicines in a demanding and rewarding clinical setting.
As part of a forward thinking, multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will collaborate with pharmacists, doctors, nurses, occupational therapists and other allied health professionals to ensure the safe, effective and efficient use of medicines.

  • Assisting in the delivery of a high-quality, patient-focused medicines management service, supporting the clinical pharmacy team to ensure safe and effective medication use across the wards.
  • Leading and coordinating the safe and efficient supply of medicines, including stock management, use of patients’ own drugs, individual patient dispensing, and discharge medication planning.
  • Supporting the clinical discharge process, ensuring accurate and timely provision of medication, counselling patients on their prescribed treatments, and promoting adherence.
  • Playing a key role in educating and empowering patients about their medication to support understanding, safety, and compliance.
  • Contributing to service improvements in line with local and national NHS requirements, working closely with the Senior Lead Technician and  Pharmacist to support development and implementation of ward-based initiatives.
  • Collaborating with doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, and other allied health professionals as a respected member of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Delivering education and training sessions on medicines management to other healthcare professionals, supporting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Providing supervision and guidance to junior staff, including Ward-based Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs),Trainee pharmacists and assisting in their development.

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and relevant underpinning knowledge (BTEC Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science) /AIMMs /MOP’s accreditation or equivalent (or within 6 months of starting job role be working towards completion within 9 months of commencement of the HEE Medicines Optimisation Programme
  • ACPT or recognised accredited pharmacy technician checking qualification (or to be achieved within 12 months of commencement)
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC

  • Qualified NVQ assessor
  • Completed NHS England / CPPE Self- Development programme
  • Member of APTUK

Experience

  • Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
  • Experience of pharmacy computer systems
  • Experience of working as a ward based-technician

  • Experience of using electronic prescribing systems e.g. Cerner
  • Experience of training others
