Job overview
We are seeking enthusiastic and compassionate Occupational Therapists for each of our dementia inpatients wards at the Mount Hospital Leeds. Alongside our dedicated therapy teams, you will be working with a multi-disciplinary led service which provides specialist assessment, treatment and care for individuals living with dementia. You will be an enthusiastic and person-centred Occupational Therapist who places the individual at the heart of their work. You will be passionate about dementia care as well as having experience working with older people and mental health. You must be keen to be part of a continuously developing service and culture.
You will support individuals living with dementia, mental health conditions and physical issues which impact on their everyday tasks and occupations. This includes carrying out Occupational Therapy assessments, interventions and creating person centred care and treatment plans. You will also support individuals to achieve their goals in self-care, productivity and leisure, and offer support and advice to their carers and relatives, whilst working towards discharge.
We offer a robust preceptorship for newly qualitied occupational therapists. We will extend varied opportunities for training and development as identified through an annual appraisal to experienced occupational Therapists. Well defined supervision systems are in place.
Main duties of the job
· This Occupational Therapy post forms part of the inpatient team whose purpose is to assess and develop treatment plans to meet the occupational, psychological and vocational needs of the individuals admitted to the dementia inpatient service.
· You will contribute to the provision and development of Occupational Therapy practice within the setting and provide appropriate and evidence based individual and group work interventions and approaches to service users within the Dementia Inpatient Service and provide clinical supervision for junior staff and support staff.
· You will utilise your core occupational therapy skills in the provision of high-quality dementia/ mental health care being responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment appropriate to the dementia inpatient service.
· You will maintain clear links with your profession’s structures and the professional lead within the Trust. You will support the professions development and modernisation and the adherence to your Professions Standards and Codes of Practice.
· You will have a caseload of service users as a designated occupational therapist working in collaboration with key and associate workers.
· You will support a service user’s care pathway ensuring appropriate links to other agencies and ensuring consistent and comprehensive standards of care are met.
