12-month fixed term contract/secondment opportunity available.

Our Education and Training team at University Hospital Southampton is responsible for delivering high standard education and training to all grades of pharmacy staff, including pharmacy support staff, pre-registration pharmacy technicians, and trainee pharmacists.

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, dynamic Pharmacy Technician to join our education and training team at UHS. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for facilitating a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Technician Practice. You will also support the running of a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Service Skills in addition to supporting new starters complete their competency based learning.

We will consider both full and part-time hours, and there will be flexibility around working patterns. As part of this role, there will be an opportunity for agile working, with a mix of remote working and working onsite.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO
You will work alongside the Education Programme Director for the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Pharmacy Technician Practice, to provide workplace support for our Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians; this includes dispensary and medicines management support.

You will be responsible for supporting, assessing and maintaining the competence of our pharmacy workforce across a number of pharmacy departments. This includes supporting staff to complete workplace competencies and regularly reviewing their progress.

There will be an expectation to work 1 in 12 weekends on either a Saturday or Sunday in our inpatient pharmacy dispensary. You will also be expected to work one bank holiday per year.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
•    You must be a Pharmacy Technician registered in the UK with the General Pharmaceutical Council. It is essential you are an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or will soon achieve this award.

•    Previous experience of delivering pharmacy/apprenticeship training is desirable, but not essential. Extensive training for all duties and responsibilities will be provided. 

•    You must be an excellent communicator with good mentoring skills. A passion for pharmacy training is essential and knowledge of current pharmacy education and training standards is desirable.

•    This is primarily an office-based role. A good understanding of Microsoft Office applications is desirable, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams. There may be an opportunity for you to complete a portion of your hours working from home, should this be deemed appropriate.

Essential criteria
  • Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC
  • Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent
  • One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications – Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation, TAQA assessor, CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff.
  • Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent
  • Additional pharmacy qualifications e.g.Completed APTUK Foundation Framework Foundation management or other recognised management qualification or demonstrable management experience
