University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

Join a Team Transforming Healthcare in Southampton
This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in shaping the future of healthcare within one of the UK’s largest acute foundation trust hospitals. Working as part of a dynamic Transformation Team, you will lead impactful projects that improve patient care, modernise services, and support innovative ways of working across the organisation. With high visibility, strong senior stakeholder engagement, and the chance to influence real change across clinical and non-clinical services, this role offers the perfect opportunity for an ambitious Project Manager looking to make a genuine difference in healthcare.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager to join our Transformation Team and help deliver strategic improvement programmes across the Trust.
Working closely with divisional, clinical, and operational colleagues, you will lead a portfolio of transformation and service improvement projects aligned to the Trust’s strategic objectives and Always Improving approach. You will work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable, patient-centred change that improves quality, efficiency, and outcomes for patients and staff.
The role requires a confident and influential professional who can manage complex programmes, engage stakeholders at all levels, and lead change in fast-paced and challenging environments.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading and delivering transformation and service improvement projects across the Trust
Using project management and quality improvement methodologies to drive measurable results
Analysing complex data and service performance to identify opportunities for improvement
Influencing and supporting teams to adopt new ways of working and embed sustainable change
Managing project delivery against agreed timescales, outcomes, and financial targets
Coaching and developing colleagues in improvement tools, techniques, and change management
Supporting Trust-wide training, facilitation, and improvement events
Acting as a visible champion for continuous improvement and patient-centred care

We are looking for someone with:

Strong project management and service improvement experience
Knowledge of quality improvement, transformation, and change management methodologies
Excellent influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams in complex organisations
The ability to manage competing priorities with a high degree of autonomy
A passion for improving healthcare services and delivering meaningful change

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking team committed to continuous improvement and innovation, while contributing directly to better experiences and outcomes for patients across Southampton and the wider healthcare system.

Working for our organisation

University Hospital Southampton is one of England's largest acute teaching Trusts, offering a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations.

Located on the south coast with an international airport and direct rail links to London, Southampton offers an ideal setting to live and work, with the New Forest, South Downs and Jurassic Coast.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

At UHS, we’re committed to providing a flexible working environment where possible. Whether you are balancing family, study, or your wellbeing with your career, we want to support you so you can help our patients.

At UHS, we proudly champion individuality, recognising that outstanding care is only possible with a diverse, inclusive team. We’re committed to creating an anti-racist, anti-discriminatory environment where everyone feels valued, safe, and empowered to make a meaningful impact in our communities. We welcome applicants of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to join us in building a healthcare community where everyone can belong, thrive, and contribute.

-Empower, support and coach colleagues to undertake transformation from within as part of their on-going workload and commitment to UHS.     Actively contribute to the Always improving training and education programme, providing coaching and facilitation to individuals, action learning sets and teams, upskilling their capability to undertake local change
