Senior Support Worker – Occupational Therapy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivated and reliable Occupational Therapy Senior Support Worker to work in our well-respected Integrated Discharge Team (IDT) working in A&E and other urgent care assessment areas including our new Frailty SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care). The team works closely with acute and community services, providing comprehensive assessment of patients to avoid admission. The team are supported by social care practitioners, specialist nurses and consultants. 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the assessment and treatment appropriate to a Band 4 level and undertake treatment plans as agreed with the Occupational Therapist.

Practical skills are required to monitor and maintain assessment equipment used by the Therapy Team. A high level of inter-professional working exists in the department benefiting the patients and all members of the MDT. 

A flexible and adaptable approach is required to meet the needs of the service. NHS experience would be an advantage but is not essential 
This post requires some weekend/bank holiday working.

To work as part of the Occupational Therapy team in delivering a high quality and effective Therapy service to patients.

To ensure patient flow and effective discharge, we provide a 7 day service and the successful candidate will be included in the weekend rota.
Additional skills will see the post holder interacting with the public daily, interactions with relatives and other professionals.

•    Identify patients who may benefit from assessment by OT and take referrals from other health professionals, screening notes as appropriate.
•    Contribute to organisation of planning the days and caseloads of all team members.
•    Support other team members where two staff are required for assessments.
•    Work independently when assessing and discharging patients. 
•    Adapt clinical practice in response to frequently changing circumstances.
•    Flexible working required over seven days.
•    To complete access visits  to patient properties, with or without a therapist

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience equivalent to NVQ3 or equivalent knowledge/experience in relevant subject
  • GCSE English and Maths (9-4)/Functional skills or equivalent

Knowledge

  • Previous experience as an Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy assistant in the physical setting
  • Able to work within guidelines and protocols
  • Be able to work on own initiative and recognise when to seek assistance
  • Able to adhere to trust and departmental documentation standards
  • Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy and demonstrates an understanding within the context of the post.
  • Ability to liaise with other agencies, statutory public services or independent.
  • Able to work on a regular basis

  • Previous experience of working in a medical setting.
