We are seeking a dynamic Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to join our Acute Frailty Therapy Team within Integrated Therapies at Queen’s Hospital.
This senior clinical leadership role provides highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and leadership across the Emergency Department, Same Day Emergency Care, rapid assessment, short-stay and acute frailty pathways.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Occupational Therapy services for frail and complex patients within front-door pathways.
Assess, diagnose, treat and support complex discharge planning.
Contribute to Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, admission avoidance and patient flow.
Provide clinical leadership, supervision and support to therapists, support workers and students.
Deliver education and promote best practice in frailty and emergency care.
Lead service improvement, audit and quality initiatives across frailty pathways
The role includes weekend working and participation in a shift pattern including late shifts (10:00-18:00).

Main duties of the job

Through a holistic approach, provide a specialist standard of Occupational Therapy service to a range of highly complex patients and carers, majority being frail and elderly, facilitating efficient, effective and co-ordinated assessment and treatment within the Acute Frailty Therapy Team service areas including, the Emergency Department (ED), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), rapid assessment, short stay and acute inpatient areas.
To demonstrate advanced and expert knowledge and skills in the autonomous management of frail and complex patients within acute rapid assessment areas. To act as a source of expertise on the Occupational Therapy management of frailty and current evidence-based practice.
To take a lead role as an advanced autonomous practitioner in the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of a diverse caseload giving highly specialist guidance and advice to other members of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) on matters relating to your specialist area.

To provide leadership on a day-to-day basis for the Occupational Therapy profession within the Acute Frailty Therapy Team service areas in planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Occupational Therapy service provided to patients within your specialist area.  

Undertake supervision, mentoring and performance development plans to promote clinical excellence and professional development of self and others.

We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
