This video gives a flavour of what it is like to work at our Trust and why some of our staff love working here 💙
Job overview
We are seeking highly motivated, conscientious, and customer-focused individuals to join our Emergency Department (ED) Reception teams at Queen’s Hospital (QH) and King George Hospital (KGH).
We are recruiting to a range of part-time substantive contracts of 30, 22.5, and 15 hours per week.
This is a cross-site role, and successful applicants will be required to work at both Queen’s Hospital and King George Hospital.
The post involves working an 8-week rolling rota, providing a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week service, including weekends, nights and bank holidays. Shift patterns include:
• 07:00–15:00
• 15:00–20:00 (QH only)
• 15:00–23:00
• 23:00–07:00
You must be able to work all shift patterns, including night shifts, and work across both hospital sites. These are essential requirements of the role.
Please note that the post will involve a significant amount of weekend working.
As an ED Receptionist, you will provide an efficient, professional, and welcoming front-of-house reception service within a busy and fast-paced emergency care environment. You will undertake a variety of administrative and clerical duties while supporting patients, relatives, carers, and colleagues.
The role requires individuals who can remain calm and professional under pressure, demonstrate empathy and compassion, and communicate effectively with people who may be distressed, anxious, unwell, or experiencing difficult circumstances.
You will have excellent customer service and communication skills, experience of working with the general public, and the ability to respond sensitively and professionally to challenging situations. You will be flexible, adaptable, organised, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
To provide an efficient and effective front of house reception service to all patients, relatives and colleagues who present to the Emergency Departments. Ensure all reception practices are adhered to. Follow correct uniform policy and have staff ID & name badge displayed at all times.
Working for our organisation
We’re an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we’re proud of and our patients are happy with.
They are benefitting from a new electronic patient record (we were the last acute trust in London to introduce one) and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.
We operate from two main sites – KGH in Goodmayes and Queen’s Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 346,000 people visiting them last year. We’re campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen’s and get rid of corridor care.
We’re proud of our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit. We’re also part of the North East London Cancer Alliance.
We run a Women’s Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George’s Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The majority of our 8,400 staff – who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We’re proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
