Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the respiratory physiology team to support predominantly the service performing cardio-pulmonary exercise testing.  The role will also involve, carrying out diagnostic lung function testing, diagnostic sleep studies and the provision of CPAP & NIV.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To independently plan, perform and interpret a range of routine and complex procedures in accordance with departmental standard operational procedures and in line with national and international guidelines where there will be a requirement to exercise judgement relating to patient care and treatment.

To plan, perform and interpret CPET, with indirect supervision from the respiratory physiology service lead/anaesthetist.

To perform and interpret routine (e.g. spirometry and overnight pulse oximetry), complex procedures (e.g. carbon monoxide gas transfer, mannitol challenge) and assist in performing highly complex (e.g. cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET)) procedures.

Provide specialist service provision within the Sleep & Ventilation unit. Undertake a range of specialist clinical sleep and ventilation procedures within the department such as capillary blood gases, interpreting and reporting on diagnostic sleep studies, implementation of Non-Invasive ventilation therapy (NIV) and Continuous positive airways therapy.

Provide specialised advice which contributes to the diagnosis, care or education of patients with Sleep apnoea, obstructive lung conditions as well as those with neuromuscular life limiting illnesses.

  • A degree in Clinical Physiology or Science related subject or equivalent.
Desirable criteria
  • ARTP Practitioner (Level 3) or working towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of performing physiological tests on a variety of different populations. 2
  • Specialist knowledge and skills in Sleep Disordered Breathing
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within Respiratory Care
  • Theoretical knowledge of Non-Invasive Ventilation, and understanding of holisitic needs of this group ot patients
