Job overview
Operational Estates are looking for an enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant – Building and Grounds, who will be based at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital, but can expect to work at any of our community sites.
To undertake a diverse range of tasks across a variety of disciplines as applicable for a particular site - see below for brief examples;
- External general site maintenance & repairs
- Grass & hedge cutting
- Clearance of road gulley's and drainage systems
- Operation of machinery and equipment appertaining to the JD.
- Manual labour for the function and operation of the Estate.
- Transportation of materials, equipment and tools to facilitate the operational estate service.
- Monthly utility data collection
- Repair of walls including pointing
- Laying kerbs, paving slabs and block paving
- Minor repairs to tarmac surfaces including line marking
- Regularly working at heights including assisting roof repairs
- Working on drainage systems
- Repairs to fencing, barriers and gates
- Concreting
- Erection of scaffold towers to appropriate standards
- Access equipment safety inspections
You may also be asked to provide assistance to building maintenance craftsmen so as to enable them to fully carry out their duties.
Main duties of the job
Operational Estates are looking for an enthusiastic Maintenance Assistant – Building and Grounds, who will be based at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd Hospital, but can expect to work at any of our community sites. You will have gained previous experience to enable you to carry out the maintenance on healthcare properties, including Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, Community Hospitals, health centres and clinics throughout BCUHB central, but mainly at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and occasionally Community Sites as per service needs .
You may also be asked to provide assistance to building maintenance craftsmen so as to enable them to fully carry out their duties.
Annual leave allowance is 28 days on appointment and up to 5 years service, 30 days after 5 and 10 years service and 34 days over 10 years service plus 8 Bank Holidays (pro rata for part-time staff).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 2 or equivalent training in an applicable discipline or equivalent level of knowledge and/or experience.
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of CPD
- City and Guilds qualification in related field.
- Competence certificate in the use of various equipment appertaining to the service
- First aid training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working within an estates maintenance type environment in one of the applicable disciplines – electrical, mechanical, grounds etc
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working within the NHS.
- Use of relevant machinery and its maintenance
- Grounds Maintenance
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to undertake manual labour tasks
- Ability to use a wide variety of hand tools and equipment
