Job overview

The post holder is a senior member of the medical secretary team providing an expert administration service to the clinical specialty and its associated work streams.

The post holder will support the consultants, junior medical staff and other health professionals with the creation of best practice and processes, supporting diary management, co-ordination of workload and of appointments and admission related information for patients and carers. 

Main duties of the job

To provide a comprehensive, high quality medical secretarial and administrative service to the consultant their medical team and specialist nursing teams, and other health professionals. 

To co-ordinate and maintain arrangements to facilitate the patients progression along a defined pathway. To maintain the office organisation and monitor the workload related to the administration team. 

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSA 111 / NVQ 3 qualification or equivalent
  • ECDL qualification or equivalent
  • GCSE/O level Maths & English Grade C or above
  • Diploma in Office Administration or experience
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets
Desirable criteria
  • Certificate in supervision or management or equivalent experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all office packages
  • Audio typing experience

Experience

  • Comprehensive administration experience at high level
  • Abillity to work unsupervised and make decisions
  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Confident in all office practices
  • Previous experience of working within the NHS
  • Experience of NHS systems
