Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Adult Learning Disability Health Service as a Clinical Specialist, working across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

Our service is a centre of excellence, delivering high-quality, person-centred care to adults with learning disabilities and a wide range of physical and mental health needs. Working within multidisciplinary teams, you will support individuals to access healthcare through direct intervention, collaboration with partner services, and by promoting effective reasonable adjustments.

You will independently manage a varied caseload, contribute to clinical pathway development, and provide support and supervision within the SLT team. The role offers opportunities to develop and deliver training, work collaboratively with AACWEST and acute services, and shape innovative, accessible care.

We offer excellent professional support, including supervision, appraisal, and opportunities to develop specialist skills such as signing, Talking Mats and visual communication strategies.

This role requires travel across community settings, with some flexibility to work across bases or remotely.

Main duties of the job

·      To independently assess, treat and manage the communication needs of adults with learning disabilities, some of whom have additional complex needs such as multiple sensory impairment, physical disability, behaviour that challenges services, autistic spectrum disorders, and mental health needs

·       To independently manage eating drinking and swallowing difficulties in the context of other complex needs

·       To provide Learning Disability specific advice and support to other staff in the SALDHS and wider Sirona teams as necessary

·       To deal with complex information from assessment requiring interpretation and comparison of a range of management options

·       Line management responsibility to provide leadership, operational support and development, and supervision within the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT). To provide professional support and clinical supervision to relevant practitioners within their discipline across the SALDHS
