We are delighted to offer a fantastic new opportunity for a School Nurse - Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) to work in partnership between Sirona care & health CIC and Bristol’s Youth Justice Service (YJS)

Bristol’s Youth Justice Service is a local authority partnership that works with young people who have come into contact with the criminal justice system. Their aim being to help these young people make positive changes in their lives and avoid further involvement in crime.

Your role will be to work as part of this multi-agency partnership providing young people with information and signposting around healthy lifestyles, including sexual health and supporting resilience and wellbeing as part of the public health nurses role in reducing health inequalities.

The team are based at City Hall however, the successful candidate will be required to be flexible and work across the Bristol geographical area.

Applications are welcomed from experienced, newly qualified School Nurses and SCPHN students nearing the end of their training.

As a School Nurse (SCPHN) working within the Youth Justice Service you will;

Use advanced communication and assessment skills to work in partnership with young people to understand their needs and to agree any appropriate support required to contribute to improving their long-term outcomes.

Work collaboratively with partners/agencies within the Youth Justice Service, applying your knowledge and expertise in health and wellbeing to improve early identification of strengths, needs and risks to child outcomes, thereby enabling young people to reach their full potential (physically emotionally and socially).

Be a motivated team member working innovatively and with a high standard of practice that is research based.

Understand the importance of trauma informed practice ensuring that the service you provide is accessible, culturally sensitive and safe in order that young people trust and want to engage in the service offered.

Qualifications and Training

  • A Degree or Post Graduate Diploma in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN). With current NMC Part 3 Registration or be awaiting registration confirmation following successful completion of the SCPHN course.
  • Registered Nurse (Adult, Children’s, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health) and or Registered Midwife.

  • Evidence of successful study at post graduate level
  • Evidence of supporting students in practice

  • This role requires the successful applicant to be mobile, visiting several locations across a wide geographical area so the post holder must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to an appropriate means of transport to undertake the job effectively i.e. car or bicycle.

Skills, Experience and Knowledge Required

  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to work in partnership with children, young people and families using a solution focussed approach and appropriate assessment skills and tools. This should clearly demonstrate child and family strengths and/or needs focused on the 6 High Impact Areas.
  • Clear knowledge and understanding of the School Nursing contribution to public health outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to sharing and distributing new evidence and research within the sphere of public health nursing. Demonstrating a proactive and questioning approach to new evidence and research.
  • Evidence of working in collaboration with other healthcare professionals, education colleagues and service providers to facilitate seamless delivery of services for young people, their family and wider communities..
  • Demonstrate ability to remain focussed on the child and child outcomes when working with complexity, risk, and uncertainty.
  • Evidence of a clear understanding of the safeguarding role of School Nursing within a universal service and multi-agency context.
  • Engage in the use of information technology, including the organisation’s social media pages, electronic patient records and systems management to enhance both the effectiveness and accessibility of the School Nursing service.
