The Children’s Speech and Language Therapy Service is excited to advertise Band 6 sessions working with children and young people with complex needs across a range of Mainstream and Special Schools.

We are a large, friendly and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists that deliver a variety of clinical Speech and Language Therapy Services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. 

Main duties of the job

You will be working within the Complex Needs Team, across Mainstream and Special Schools in Bristol and South Gloucestershire, providing assessment and therapy as required.

Your caseload will range from 4-19yrs of age and cover children and young people with a wide range of needs including syndromes, cerebral palsy and global developmental delay. You will regularly need to use your knowledge of different AAC methods, developed communication skills and MDT working.

As you will be working within schools across a wide range of areas , access to a vehicle will be very beneficial.

The Complex Needs SLT team are a small, supportive team who meet regularly through the year with frequent opportunities for CPD and supervision.

Essential criteria
  • BSc Hons Speech and Language Therapy
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Post qualification dysphagia competencies
  • Other relevant qualifications e.g. Makaton

Experience, Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Sound understanding of the SEND code of Practice
  • Experience of working with children with complex needs
  • Experience of working as an autonomous practitioner e.g., caseload management, prioritising cases, effective organisation and time management skills
  • Experience of working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT)
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with complex motor and / or communication needs
  • Experience of providing specialist support to children with eating and drinking difficulties
  • Experience of providing training to staff members
  • Experience of working with / in schools
