Job overview

Sirona care and health has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Band 6 Safeguarding Nurse!

The post holder will work primarily within the Safeguarding Single Point of Access  (SPA) front door, managing all safeguarding strategy requests raised to Sirona by agency partners.  

You will use an agreed Scheme of Delegation framework to ensure that children's needs are prioritised and represented by the right health professional within the strategy discussion pathway, focusing on achieving best outcomes for children.

Additionally, you will be contributing to strategy threshold decision making and immediate safety planning for children. You'll work closely with the community paediatric team, local safeguarding partnerships, the police, education and multiagency contributors to strategy discussions. You will be central to information sharing to safeguard children.

The post holder will  also be part of the wider Integrated Safeguarding Team,  based within the North Somerset Locality team and with opportunities to develop knowledge and skills in other safeguarding work streams. 

Our team work predominantly 09.00 – 17:00 and cover the entire BNSSG area. We can offer hybrid working patterns, in base and at virtual working at times.

Interviews will be held on 9th October at our HQ in Yate. 

 

Main duties of the job

  • To act as the health representative for identified strategy discussions, in line with the Scheme of Delegation framework, that do not require Community Paediatrician input.

  • To ensure that all processes are child focused acting as an advocate for the child.

  • To contribute to the assessment and analysis of any information requests, following information  governance guidance on the appropriate and safe retrieval, collation, sharing and storage of 
    information to provide an evidence-based risk assessment as a contribution to the strategy 
    discussion processes.

  • To act as the Health Representative (BNSSG wide) to strategy discussion in line with the agreed Scheme of Delegation  framework and to seek additional expert advice and support from the Specialist 
    Safeguarding Nurse, Community Paediatricians, named and/or designated professionals for more complex cases following preliminary strategy discussions as needed.

  • To co-ordinate any specific information from relevant health agencies such as General Practice, acute settings, mental health together with the voice of involved practitioners such as family health, 
    maternity health, school health, mental health, domestic abuse and violence and substance misuse to assist strategy and decision making.
  •   To contribute to other identified workstreams, which may include MARAC and MASH.

Experience of safeguarding

Essential criteria
  • Registered Sick Children’s Nurse / Registered General Nurse / Midwife / School Health Nurse
  • Educated to degree level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development related to child protection through attendance at short courses.
  • Car owner / driver: ability to travel in a timely fashion across BNSSG
  • Ability to use Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist Community Public Health Nurse.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with children and families where child safeguarding has been a significant feature
  • Recent experience of child protection work e.g., report writing / case conference /core group attendance, implementation of child protection plans
  • Experience of assessing and teaching
  • Experience of inter-agency partnership working
  • Experience of participating in quality assurance audits
  • Working knowledge of issues relating to information sharing i.e. consent and confidentiality
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of Midwifery or sexual health
