Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist for 18 hours per week, fixed term for 12 months working at Band 7 within our Specialist Speech and Language Disorders Team, providing Outreach services to children with Speech and Language Disorders in mainstream schools in Conwy.

The team comprises of two Speech and Language Therapists working in close partnership with Specialist Teaching Assistants and a Curriculum Inclusion Teacher.

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with experience of working with children and young people with speech and language disorders across primary and secondary school-aged settings. The role would be suitable for Specialist Speech and Language Therapists keen for development opportunities.

The successful applicant will have excellent time and caseload management skills, as well as an ability to build a strong rapport with parents and the wider workforce. They will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with colleagues. The successful applicant will have an interest in service development and innovation.

Main duties of the job

  • You will hold an overview of the service and will work effectively with Local Authority partners and Speech and Language Therapy colleagues and leadership team to ensure equity, efficiency and dynamic service delivery.
  • Working in collaboration with your SLT colleagues in the team.
  • You will support the Specialist Teaching Assistants providing supervision as needed.
  • You will be responsible for assessing, and devising intervention for the children accessing the SSLD Outreach Service.
  • You will work with colleagues in the Speech and Language Therapy team to identify children with severe speech and language disorders and appropriate levels of support.
  • You will have the opportunity to work directly with children and young people as well as provide training, advice and support to the Specialist Teaching Assistants, mainstream school staff and the wider workforce.
  • You will support parents and keep in regular touch with them via termly phone calls or meetings.
  • You will lead on projects which contribute to service development.
  • You will offer support to the wider SLT team to develop knowledge and skills in working with children with speech and language disorders.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
