An exciting part time  opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Specialist Dietitian to join the Adult Eating Disorders Inpatient Multi-disciplinary team at West Park Hospital. The clinical aspect of this role will be to provide specialist, evidence-based dietetic intervention to adults with eating disorders and support their recovery so that they can restore their health and live their lives to the fullest. There is an expectation to provide dietetic support to the broader Adult Eating Disorder community team if and when required.

The post holder will be a Registered Dietitian with substantial clinical experience of complex dietetic delivery for service users with eating disorders. They will have a good understanding of the national drivers and influencers that impact eating disorders services and service delivery. As a Clinical Specialist, the post holder will be required to participate in service development, audit, research activities, pathway development, ongoing training of the clinical teams they work into and our stakeholders and facilitate student training.

Promotes and maintains safety, privacy, and dignity of all service user in the delivery of person-centred care, recognising and respecting differences including spiritual and cultural beliefs.

Provide clinical supervision and peer supervision as needed, in alignment with Trust, BDA and HCPC standards.

Responsible for ensuring the highest professional standards and attitudes towards the care of service users are always maintained and that care is delivered in accordance with Guidelines, Access and Waiting Time Standards, and the Trust’s Values and behaviours.

Assesses service users including those with complex needs and develops, implements, and evaluates intervention plans as part of the MDT, with the involvement of young people and their families and in accordance with their individual need. This includes undertaking complex dietetic assessments and developing individualised dietetic care plans.

Provides updates and reports on service user progress at clinical meetings and makes recommendations to inform the clinical decision-making process regarding service user care as part of the MDT.

Maintain up to date knowledge and competency in the skills required to perform safely and effectively in the role. Undertake relevant training (including statutory and mandatory training) and be responsible for personal development agreed with the line manager and in line with the requirements of the AFC Knowledge and Skills Framework.

This post provides an opportunity to work as part of a broader and supportive team of Dietitians working within a specialist mental health and learning disabilities NHS Foundation Trust.

Our Dietetic Team is the largest and most established Specialist Mental Health and Learning Disability dietetic team in the UK and has strong links with the British Dietetic Association. Our Dietitians work into Adult Eating disorders, Adult Mental Health, Children and Adolescent Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health Services for Older People and Secure Inpatient Services. We are supported by our Professional Head of Dietetics, and Advanced Clinical Practitioner Dietitian in Eating Disorders and a large group of highly skilled Clinical Specialist and Lead Dietitians.

We have regular speciality team meetings to develop skills and provide peer support and can provide additional training and support to engage with the complex needs of the patient group. We have a robust clinical and management supervision structure and support continued professional training and development.

Knowledge

  • Significant experience of supporting people with mental health conditions, learning disability or autism
  • Significant understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities or autism

  • Experience of participating in quality improvement activities, service development, and/or project management.
  • Experience of participating in clinical governance activities including clinical audit, Application Form and Interview quality assurance of practice
  • Participation in research and development eg critical appraisal of research papers, service evaluation, small scale or large scale research.
  • Highly competent in clinical supervision of staff and/or students.
  • Substantial experience in design and delivery of high quality and effective training
  • Substantial experience of application of relevant legislation (i.e. Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act) in practice

Qualifications

  • Pre-registration qualification in dietetics (relevant professional field) as recognised by HCPC)
  • Registration with HCPC.
  • Evidence of post-registration Masters level learning. Or in the absence of masters level learning • equivalent experience in relevant area. E.g. relevant level 7 courses, researcher role, quality improvement activity, leading service development, project management, strategic leadership, NICE involvement, service evaluation
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 7 (SLT =8) for International recruits
