We are pleased to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for a band 7 Team Manager to join our North Durham Getting Help Services 

Within North Durham Getting Help Services we have a MHSTs who work directly into education.  This is in line with the government’s priority to increase access and availability of mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people within education settings.

The band 7 Team Manager provides operational leadership to the team.

The successful candidate will work closely within our CAMHS leadership structure, as well as liaising and building relations within the local support offer external to the trust within Durham 

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The MHST has 3 core functions:

  1. Support the development of a whole-school or college approach to wellbeing.  This can include, but is not limited to, supporting sites to develop and implement mental health and wellbeing policies, development of resources, supporting campaigns and delivering training, assemblies and PHSE curriculum.
  2. Provide timely advice and consultation to education staff.  This is designed to support teaching staff to build their skills and confidence in supporting the wellbeing needs of their students/pupils.  This is offered in both a formal and informal way.
  3. Undertake direct assessments and intervention for young people within education.  We offer a low intensity service model, predominantly using cognitive-behavioural therapy.

Each function accounts for a third of the team's workload.

The Team Manager must demonstrate the ability to manage their time, prioritising and managing competing demands.  Relationships and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of partners and stakeholders is vital to this role.

This post is within our Getting Help service. You will work closely with your peers and clinical leadership to deliver our low-moderate MH needs service. As part of the wider CAMHS leadership we work in a place-based way. You will work with colleagues within Getting More Help and Risk Support to ensure the CYP within the Durham area are supported by the best team to meet their needs. 

This is an exciting time you join as the MHST has recently had an additional expansion to their team.  The government mandate is directing that all schools will have access the the Mental Health Support Team by 2030

Qualifications and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Current professional registration with appropriate body in healthcare or social work or relevant professional clinical qualification (ie PWP/CWP in IAPT/Getting Help services)
  • Be Educated to Master’s level in leadership or a subject area relevant to the area of practice
  • OR Have equivalent clinical experience to that of masters level such as working as a band 6 (or above) in relevant clinical area with significant experience – which also includes significant experience of managing people (see below under experience), together with evidence of CPD
  • Be trained in Clinical Supervision and Providing Clinical Supervision
  • Be a Recognised Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor
  • Significant experience working with patients who display risk behaviours
  • Working collaboratively with others (external partners, staff service users and their families/carers)
  • Evidence of delivering supervision
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Risk assessment and management and its application in practice
  • Developing, maintaining and auditing standards of practice
  • Evidence of training in Quality Improvement methodology or coaching, and/or using.

Knowledge/ Skills/experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of current issues relating to health needs of patients in the field of practice, regionally and nationally
  • The Trust’s Quality Improvement system (QIS) – or completion of training within agreed timescale
  • Governance and its application in practice
