Job overview

An outstanding individual is sought to fulfil the role of  Deputy Training Programme Director for ENT (Surgery). They will work with the current Training Programme Directors and be accountable to the Deputy Dean via the Head of School of Surgery, they will play an important part in the direction of training programmes in Yorkshire and the Humber.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a multi-professional team.

The post will be available on the basis of a secondment arrangement to HEE YH remunerated on the NHS Consultant Pay Scale – 0.5 PA per week. 

All work undertaken is to be incorporated into the Consultant Job Plan.

This is a HEE YH wide role and the successful candidate will have knowledge of all rotations and trainees. They will be expected to cover for the TPDs during periods of absence. 

The post is not necessarily locality specific.

Main duties of the job

The role of Deputy Training Programme Director is to work with and support the Head of School in leading the delivery of a wide range of functions, aligned to the Health Education England mandate.  

The Deputy Training Programme Director is professionally and managerially accountable to the Head of School. The Deputy Training Programme Director will focus upon improvement of learner supervision, assessment and experience, engagement of faculty and ensuring effective educational outcomes, both now and in the future. The role is evolving and will also focus on whole workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification or On the Specialist Register
  • Membership/Fellowship of a College, Faculty, Professional Association and/or Regulatory Body
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at courses aimed to support educational development (example: educator courses, train the trainer etc)
