Job overview

The Mental Health Improvement Support Team (MHIST) is a small expert team based within the Chief Operating Officers Directorate (Operational Improvement). The team is made up of senior clinicians and managers that provides / facilitates intensive support to providers and commissioners who are encountering challenges in pathway delivery (including supporting the national recovery support programme for Mental Health Providers and Mental Health Urgent and Emergency Care Service Assessment reviews).

The team’s overall aim is to support the delivery of particular national standards and increase quality outcomes whilst reducing unnecessary variation in the delivery of care by highlighting good practice and supporting its systematic implementation along entire pathways.

We undertake high quality reviews and work with systems, ICS/ICBs, NHSE/I regional teams (including Nursing Directorate, Recovery Support Programme, Elective Care Improvement Support Team) to bring about sustainable change.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join the team. This is a demanding and varied role which requires you to:

  • Have a clear understanding of the mental health agenda
  • Have significant senior clinical / management experience of operational delivery within the NHS, ideally in adult, older adult or CYP mental health
    • and may also have a deep specialism in a particular professional discipline (e.g. therapy or nursing) combined with operational experience
  • Have experience of working at a senior level to identify improvement priorities, develop improvement plans and work collaboratively to deliver improved outcomes for patients / clinical staff (demonstrating increased productivity).
  • Have significant expertise in some of the following areas:  improvement science; performance delivery; collaborative consultancy; delivery of waiting standards; data handling and reporting.

The role would normally involve travel throughout England which may on occasion include being away several days a week.

The post holder’s base will a home contract or NHSE/I office nearest to their home.

Salary Progression

Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8d with a full-time starting salary of £83,571 with a pay step increase after 5 years’ service.
 
For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum.
 
This is offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and is based on office location.
