Job overview
HMP Stoke Heath has a population of over 750 adult male prisoners. The successful candidate will be part of a Primary Health Care team that helps to deliver both physical and mental health to this prison population.
We are seeking a pharmacy technician to join our established pharmacy team consisting of a lead pharmacist and technicians and PTPT’s.
You will have the ability to effectively coordinate your work, often working independently to the main healthcare building. You should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.
Due to the challenging nature of the client group within this secure environment, an informal visit is recommended prior to your application.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the review of resident’s medications.
- Support the dispensary.
- Administer medications to residents on the wings.
- Support with medicines audits.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

Essential criteria
- Hold a recognised NVQ Level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification in a pharmaceutical field.
- Have a current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Maintains a portfolio of CPD in line with regulatory body standards.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
- Theoretical and clinical knowledge appropriate to service area and profession.
- Knowledge of relevant current issues in health and socialcare.
- Knowledge of Standards of Conduct.
- Demonstrates awareness of limits to knowledge base.
- Basic understanding of clinical governance and quality measures.
Experience

- Able to demonstrate post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrates understanding of pharmacy standards.

Requirements:
- Qualified Pharmacy Technician with relevant registration (or due to qualify).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience in a prison setting is desirable but not essential.
- You must be able to travel to the prison and having access to your own car is recommended.
