Main duties of the job

What We Do
Our Finance Directorate provides a wide range of business support services, including:

  • Finance Business Partnering
  • Financial Management & Reporting
  • Contracting & Income, Costing

About the Role

As Assistant Management Accountant, you will work closely with the Principal Finance Business Partner, Durham Tees Valley finance team and our clinical services in Durham and Tees Valley. 
There may be future opportunities for rotation into other finance teams, allowing experience in roles within our central team, costing & income team or corporate support team.

You will:

Work as part of the Financial Management team; ensuring delivery of high quality, comprehensive financial management advice and support which contributes towards the strategic direction of the Trust.

Suggest improvements to the functions and operating procedures of the team to ensure it is fit for purpose and continues to meet the requirements of both internal and external reporting.
Analyse variances  and understand the implications of these on the forecast outturn position. 
Identify patterns and trends that result in accurate financial reporting. 
Report on progress against targets to non-finance colleagues; ensuring that key points are readily understandable to support decision making.
Communicate complex financial information to non-finance department colleagues in a way that is meaningful, useful, focused and can lead to actions to maintain or improve the financial position.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Part qualified accountant (CCAB, AAT / NVQ4 or equivalent) with willingness to achieve full qualification within agreed timescale
Desirable criteria
  • AAT/NVQ4 member or equivalent with proven experience in financial environment or equivalent relevant financial experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience within Finance or Management Accounts.
  • Excellent skills and understanding of Microsoft applications in delivering complex outcomes
  • Numeracy, analytical and Investigative skills
  • Problem solving
Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of computerised financial and management accounting systems and processes
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of latest finance development and national policy

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent Communication Skills – verbal and written
  • Numeracy, analytical & Investigative problem solving.
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet applications. Able to produce, format & manipulate comprehensive financial information
