Job overview

The North East and Yorkshire Specialised Commissioning Team are looking to appoint a highly motivated individual as a Neuro Rehabilitation Case Manager, Band 8a, to work across the footprint of the North East and North Cumbria Region.

As the NHS develops its future approach to commissioning, we need to ensure that high quality effective specialised services are available to local populations, evidenced by recognised clinical standards, good outcomes, and equality of access.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to help embed these principles within our commissioning strategy; to do this the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of Neuro Rehabilitation and be able to work across a range of services. Local interaction with Integrated Care Boards clinical networks and providers is a pivotal aspect of this role as well as having direct contact with regional providers and units on a regular basis.

The post holder will also be expected to work alongside the wider specialised commissioning team supporting with relevant transformation pieces of work and acting as an expert in neuro rehabilitation.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in neuro rehabilitation with a broad range of knowledge gained in both inpatient and community settings. They will require outstanding communication and relationship management skills and be able to manage competing priorities across complex pieces of work.

They will also have a flexible approach to their role and responsibilities and be able to respond effectively to the changing agenda of the specialised commissioning team.

The post holder will be a key member of the North East and Yorkshire Specialised Commissioning team; line management will be by the North East Hub.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered AHP or RCN other registered health or social care professional.
  • Possess a relevant additional professional qualification, master’s level, or equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of legal issues pertaining to the specialist service, including MHA 1983, after care under supervision, sex offender legislation, probation orders and life licence, Ministry of Justice procedures and child protection legislation.
  • Detailed operational knowledge of Specialist Rehabilitation Services for Patients with Highly Complex needs, including risk assessment/management.
  • Member of relevant professional body.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Development and maintenance of therapeutic alliance with service users and their families /carers.
  • High-level management skills, able to perform to high level in clinical setting, holding services to account and ensuring effective use of NHS England resources.
  • Case management skills, focussing on the needs of the individual and the context of their pathway in relation to all clinical and legal processes.
  • Ability to negotiate on difficult and controversial issues including performance and change.
  • Demonstrated capability to plan over short, medium, and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly.
