Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) in County Durham and Darlington are seeking to recruit a CAMHS Clinician to work in our South Durham, Getting More Help Team. This post requires the candidate to have a professional registration in Child, mental health or Learning disability nursing.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, well-motivated, forward-thinking clinician to work as part of our team - working with young people with mental health problems.

Within the CAMHS Team we have a very varied work load, which means that every day will bring new and exciting opportunities for you to develop your skills. In order to support you in your development we will use regular appraisal and talent management, to identify your interests and development opportunities. As a team we will support you with both formal training and continuing professional development opportunities.

Candidates must have 18 months post qualifying experience including sign off of appropriate preceptorship or competency framework.

Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis.

In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.

The team is multi-disciplinary and provides mental health assessments, treatment and interventions for young people suffering from moderate to severe complex emotional, behavioural and psychological issues resulting in mental health problems.

This CAMHS team is a dynamic team that is comprised of CAMHS clinicians with varying professional backgrounds, including Nursing, psychology, Social Workers enabling us to provide high quality holistic mental health care to the children and young people accessing our services. 

The successful applicant will work with the MDT to provide assessments and interventions to children and young people and families. As part of the MDT we will provide ongoing support to the successful applicant through supervision and talent management. 

We are a forward thinking, creative team that encourages all team members to share their ideas to improve our service for young people and their families. The role of the CAMHS clinician is crucial in young peoples recovery and improving outcomes.

As part of the MDT you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills and provide evidence based interventions and therapies to children and young peoples.

Qualifications

  • Current professional registration with Nursing & Midwifery Council RNMH or RNLD (RNSC – CAMHS only )
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Recognised Practice Supervisor and/or Practice Assessor, clinical educator or equivalent. Must be achieved within 6 months
  • Trained in Clinical Supervision and providing clinical supervision OR willingness to work towards within 6 months

Experience

  • Working collaboratively with service users and their families/carers.
  • Providing clinical supervision to individuals or groups as professionally appropriate.
  • Supervising or assessing students on practice placement.
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Quality improvement activities

Knowledge

  • Understanding of relevant legislation (e.g. Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act).
  • Detailed understanding of Safeguarding and its application in practice
  • Clinical Risk Assessment and Management and its application in practice
  • Clinical Governance and its application in practice
  • Research and development methodology
  • Understanding of psychological models of care and treatment
  • Working knowledge of clinical medicines management, including administration of injections
