Job overview
Following new investment, we are excited to be offering a Senior Social Work post within the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Community Service North Yorkshire and York. This post will provide services to the York and Scarborough geographic areas.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the community perinatal multi-disciplinary team representing a social work perspective to women experiencing mental health difficulties in pregnancy and up to 1 year postnatal.
The role will include the ongoing development of the social worker role in the team. As an autonomous social worker, the person will be accountable for a defined caseload including service users with child and adult /or adult safeguarding needs.
Main duties of the job
We are a specialist service that strives to deliver excellent standards of care to expectant and new mothers with severe and complex mental health problems. We are looking for a highly motivated practitioners with an interest in perinatal mental health, however further specialist training and supervision will be provided to the successful candidates.
The post holder will key work a caseload of patients with peri natal needs in particular those with complex social care needs and safeguarding's in place.
Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Appropriate professional qualification in social work role
- Current relevant registration with specific regulatory body
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) level 7 (SLT =8) for International recruits
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate training in relevant specialist area
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum 12 months post qualifying experience of social work delivery /completion of AYSE for social work (post 2012) pre 2012 evidence of experience in accordance with professional capabilities framework for an experienced social worker
Desirable criteria
- Experience of supporting people with mental health issues, learning disability or autism
- Experience of working in Multidisciplinary Team (SW essential criteria)
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Understanding of the needs of service users with mental health conditions or learning disabilities.
- Legal literacy
Desirable criteria
- Clinical risk assessment and application in practice
- Knowledge of evidence based practice in designated specialist area
- Post graduate training in specialist area if applicable to post (e.g. dysphagia, autism diagnostics)
- Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of managing complex social work cases
- Awareness of professional standards and its application to practice
