An Excellent opportunity to join our Looked After Children Team within the  Wrexham area. We are a small team dedicated to working with children, families and carers and supporting every opportunity to maintain their health, development an emotional wellbeing.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work alongside the Looked After Children's (LAC) Nursing Team and lead working  in a dedicated area within the Wrexham area of North Wales, and will be based within a community health setting.

The post holder will have professional responsibility to coordinate timely completion and implementation of high quality statutory health assessments and care plans for Looked After Children.

The aim and purpose of the post is to provide services in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams including School Nursing, Health Visiting, Community Paediatricians and other LAC Nurses within and outside of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to ensure the best possible health and social outcomes for the child/young person in the care of the Local Authority or on the Edge of Care. The post holder will be an advocate for LAC Children and Care Leavers.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • NMC Registered Nurse • Health Visitor / School Nurse/CAMHS or Paediatric Nursing Qualification (Degree and / or SCHPN) • Additional specialist post graduate training relevant to Children in Care • As the designated nurse for this group of vulnerable young people, they will have developed specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, gained from relevant practical experience. For example, knowledge of the job, courses and training are constantly evolving as research indicates change in practice. The courses are facilitated by partner agencies including LA who support the child locally or out of area. This ensures the post holder maintains an expertise in this complex field; this is then disseminated with staff. Guidance and support is given via phone queries. Knowledge of Legal systems in relation to the Looked After Child system, consent Section 76, ICO & FCO twin tracking, able to give guidance in rare instances around process when LAC/YP may be placed in secure unit/remanded in custody. • The postholder will evolve theoretical training knowledge through relevant and appropriate training: 1. Secure Base Training 2. Trauma Informed Schools (Level 6 Diploma) 3. Sexual Health Modules (Degree Level) 4. Safeguarding Modules (Degree Level) 5. Child Exploitation Courses
Desirable criteria
  • Working at a Master’s Degree Level, or working towards additional qualifications at Master’s Degree Level

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of Safeguarding. Experience of working with families.
Desirable criteria
  • Family Planning/Sexual Health. Parenting/behaviour management/attachment. Child Development.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • • Ability to assess, plan, implement evaluate and delegate appropriately the delivery of care. • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to take charge. • Ability to manage caseload working under pressure and prioritise workload. • IT Skills • Demonstrate appropriate leadership skills alongside the ability to care and communicate with warmth and understanding. • Supervise teach and assess registered and non-registered staff. • Provide mentorship and preceptorship as appropriate • Knowledge of the NMC Code • Knowledge of Risk management, clinical governance ,information governance and health and safety • Knowledge of national and local initiatives impacting on health and social service provision • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies / procedures and practice.
