Job overview

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), the largest health organisation in Wales, is seeking an exceptional Pharmaceutical Production Lead to support the Head of Pharmacy Technical Services to operationally lead, regionalise and modernise our pharmaceutical production services during a pivotal period of strategic transformation and service redesign.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to influence how Pharmacy Technical Services are delivered not only within North Wales but nationally across Wales as part of the Transforming Access to Medicines programme (TrAMS).  We are looking for a senior leader who can lead complex change with clarity and credibility, supporting the continued development of a high-performing regionalised service to support us improving quality, capacity, equity of access and patient outcomes through innovation and strong leadership

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

As the Production Lead, you will provide senior operational and professional leadership for Pharmacy Technical Services production teams, ensuring safe, effective, and high-quality service delivery. You will play a critical role in leading teams through change, supporting the development of a positive and inclusive culture, and enabling high-performing teams to thrive within a complex and evolving service landscape. This will include building trust, fostering collaboration, shared accountability, and creating conditions where teams feel supported to continuously improve quality and outcomes. We are seeking a confident and credible senior leader who can navigate complexity, support teams through change, and deliver improvement in a structured and inclusive way. We are looking for someone who brings:

  • Extensive experience within Pharmacy technical Services/Aseptic services and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of GMP, Pharmaceutical Quality Systems and regulatory compliance
  • Experience of leading and delivering transformational change programmes
  • Strong strategic thinking and operational management capability
  • Highly developed leadership, influencing, and communication skills
  • A commitment to innovation, service improvement, and patient-centred care

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Masters Degree such as Level 7 Pharmaceutical Technology & Quality Assurance (PTQA), Masters or Science Training Programme (STP)
  • Pharmaceutical Science or relevant pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Specialist and practical experience of GMP systems management acquired over 5 years
  • Equivalent to that required by MHRA guidance for post graduate diploma
  • Management or Leadership qualification or accreditation - demonstrable equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Product Approver (S10 Medical Act) and Cleanroom Supervision (CRS) accreditation
  • Quality Improvement Accreditation
  • Training qualification or accreditation or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post-qualification GMP experience providing NHS Aseptic services or within an MHRA licensed unit
  • Experience of Quality Risk Management (QRM) or other comprehensive pharmaceutical quality management system
  • Experience of undertaking risk assessment, root cause analysis and CAPA, change control
  • Experience of stock management of hazardous and time-limited materials, and interpretation of stability data obtained from a range of sources
  • Experience of managing a team of people

  • Good communication skills including being able to present complex information, share knowledge and influence others
  • Project management and strong organisation skills, including being able to plan ands document complex schedules and processes, and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines

  • Confident user 0f computer systems, demonstrating attention to detail at all levels, including utilisation and understanding of spreadsheets, in order to identify , record, compare and analyse data from multiple sources
