Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and reflective Consultant Applied Psychologist who has both passion for and experience of working with older people and their families. The post is based at Cross Lane Hospital in  Scarborough  in North Yorkshire , it is available full time but we would consider part time at a minimum of 0.8 wte (30 hours).

This post will involve clinical leadership for the Mental Health for Older Persons inpatient service and acute mental health liaison with some additional involvement in supporting the organic inpatient service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would provide a much valued and high quality applied psychological provision through consultation, supervision, formulation, training, and participation in clinical governance. You will work with highly complex presentations suitable for an experienced psychologist through applying expertise and knowledge and adapting both formulation and evidence-based approaches in individual and person centred ways. Supervising other professionals and assistant psychologists to deliver lower-level interventions will be an essential aspect of this role.

The post holder will be an integral and key member of collective leadership teams influencing psychological thinking, promotion . More widely they would make valuable contributions to the development of psychological professional networks across NYYS. All the while supporting the Trust values of compassion, respect and responsibility

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice
  • Trained in clinical supervision and the supervision of doctoral trainees
  • Trained in care co-ordination
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Registration with BPS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working as a qualified applied psychologist within the designated service including a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings.
  • Exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care as a care co-ordinator and leader of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Teaching, training, clinical supervision and field supervisor for doctoral theses.
  • Providing clinical and professional leadership to other qualified and non-qualified members of the profession.

Knowledge
