An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic nurse to join our friendly team on the Cardiac Cath suite at Bedford Hospital as a Band 5. We are looking for an enthusiastic and competent individual preferably with experience of working in cardiology department or Cath Lab assisting with procedures with good communication and collaborative skills.

The purpose of the job is to work in conjunction with the cardiology team to deliver high quality nursing care to cardiac patients. The post holder carries responsibility for the assessment of care needs, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care.

The successful candidate will work with an established multidisciplinary team in a busy area encompassing the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory and a Day Ward. The post holder will have the opportunity to develop into the role which will include assisting with procedures in the lab, being involved in the pre and post procedure care of patients and nurse led preadmission clinics. The Post holder will be required to work a variety of shifts including 7.5 hours, 10 hours – short/long days and late shifts.

The post holder will on agreed occasions be designated to take charge of the shift in absence of the nurse who has continuing responsibility.  The post holder is expected to supervise junior staff and be able to teach qualified and unqualified staff, including pre and post registration students.

To provide skilled nursing care, demonstrating a high standard of practise for the whole experience for every cardiac patient.

To demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care.

Acts as scrub nurse in diagnostic and interventional procedures such as Angiography, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Permanent and Temporary Pacemakers. Moreover, to assist in other procedures like TOE (Trans oesophageal echocardiogram) and DC Cardioversions.

To promote evidence based practise for the cardiac patient from admission to discharge.

General responsibilities

  1. Responsible for organisation, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for cardiac patients within the department in the absence senior nurse.
  2. To work within the recovery area, pre-assessment clinics and the cardiac Cath lab.
  3. To be utilised as a resource by the ward staff concerning any aspect of cardiac procedures and individual patient care.
  4. To ensure accurate collection of patient data is maintained as per information governance policy.
  5. To facilitate clinical audits and research within the unit
  6. Responsible for the ordering, stock levels and security of drugs kept in the department.
  7. Be able to communicate basic care information and answer queries to patients, their relatives/carers and the multidisciplinary team members.
  8. To be able to help with the nursing care in other wards when necessary.
