Job overview

An exciting new role has become available within the Primrose Unit.

we are looking for a well organised, motivated individual with competent IT skills to join the team  to  support the existing chemotherapy service at Bedford Hospital.

This is a project post for a  fixed term  of 12 months. If beneficial to the service it will become a permanent post.

 

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

·          Provide comprehensive organisational and administrative support for the chemotherapy service at Bedford.

·         Ensure the smooth day to day operational management of chemotherapy treatments

·         To be responsible for scheduling chemotherapy treatments after first cycle to fully utilise resources available within the unit.

·         To support the chemotherapy co-ordinator in managing cancer waiting target lists.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    To manage the chemotherapy booking diary on IQEMO to ensure full utilisation of chair capacity on a day to day basis.

2.    Manage own day to day workload and adhere to strict timescales working within the Trust and departmental policies and procedures.

3.    To escalate any concerns regarding capacity of treatment slots to the deputy service manager and chemotherapy unit team leader.

4.    To reschedule patients where treatment has been deferred ensuring that any review and phlebotomy appointments are adjusted accordingly.

5.    To answer telephone, emails and face to face enquires  in a professional and timely manner using tact, diplomacy and confidentiality

6.    To be conversant, liaise and work closely with the other members of the team.

7.    The post holder must be conversant with the Trust IT systems IQEMO/ IPM/ ICE

8.    The post holder will be expected to undergo further training when systems are updated and to implement changes into their own working systems.

9.    Be responsible for the quality and integrity of information kept on IPM and IQEMO systems.

10. Ensure that data entered onto any local systems is complete and accurate

11. Maintain confidentiality and ensure information is only released to the correct individual(s).

12. Maintain communication links with other departments and specialities as necessary

13. To cover Primrose Unit reception on an adhoc basis to cover- e.g. lunch breaks, sickness & annual leave

14. Uphold the policies and standards of the trust, projecting a professional attitude at all times.

15. To identify own training and development needs and to undertake appropriate training/education as required.

16. To ensure full compliance of Trust mandatory training

17. To demonstrate trust values on a daily basis.

18. To attend and contribute regularly to Primrose Unit meetings

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education
  • Evidence of further personal development
  • General administration experience
  • Training knowledge, acquired through formal training or experience to diploma level equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial NHS experience
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing routine information
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in oncology/chemo unit
  • Experience of appointment procedures and processes

knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of multidisciplinary team working
  • Knowledge of NHS IT systems
  • Knowledge of Microsoft word package
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy treatments
