Starting your training at our Bedford site, you’ll soon have the opportunity to work across both Bedfordshire Hospital Laboratory locations, adapting to service needs and participating in a 24/7 shift pattern once fully trained. Main duties of the job
As a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist you will:
Be responsible for conducting the day to day operations and technical aspects within Biochemistry in accordance with established protocols and standards.
Support the departmental laboratory seniors in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service.
Be required to work across both our Luton and Bedford sites and once fully trained participate in the 24/7 shift rota.
Assist in delivering of training in accordance with the departmental training policy.
Be accountable for own professional actions.

The post holder will conduct day to day operations and technical aspects of the department, for which they are employed. They will work closely with the departmental laboratory manager and laboratory senior, to ensure an effective delivery of services in line with the other blood science disciplines.
The post holder will assist the departmental laboratory senior in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System [QMS] and quality monitoring process using key performance indicators. In conjunction with the departmental
laboratory manager and laboratory senior the post holder will maintain an effective operational structure for blood sciences ensuring the professional infra-structure is maintained to assist other staff to undertake training and achieve competencies for UKAS accreditation standards.
The post holder is expected to coordinate clinical activities with the departmental clinical team.
They will be expected to implement policies and procedures, relevant to their grade, that the service is required to comply with; including UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies.
The post holder will have responsibilities for and support staff in the department of employment, including training, development, and performance.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completed an Institute of Biomedical Scientist (IBMS) accredited degree (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and demonstrable experience at BMS level.
- Completed an IBMS portfolio

- Knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry Procedures. Experience of working in a BMS role in Biomedical Science
